Height: 5' 3" (1.60 m)

Biography

As a Gracie Award and La Femme Film Festival Rising Star Award recipient, 2012 Teen Choice, IMAGEN and an ALMA award nominee for her portrayal of 'Adrian Lee' on ABC Family's critically acclaimed series "The Secret Life of an American Teenager," Francia Raisa continues to prove herself as a star on the rise. Francia was featured on the August cover of Backstage magazine as one of Young Hollywood's top Latinos in American TV and Film, further proving she is the one to watch.

Francia was born and raised in Southern California to mother Virginia Almendarez of Mexico and father Maximo Renan Almendarez Coello of Honduras, (one of the most recognized radio personalities and #1 Latino DJs in Los Angeles). At the age of five, Francia began taking dance lessons to learn all styles from tap to jazz, acrobatics, hip- hop and Polynesian. In addition to dance, she trained in karate and ice-skating. Looking to expand her talents her junior year of high school, Francia decided to study both acting and modeling. She started to get noticed, and soon began to model for print ads and national commercials. A month into her senior year of high school, Francia booked her first lead role, starring opposite Hayden Panettiere in "Bring it On: All or Nothing."

Not long after wrapping "Bring it On," Francia booked the lead female role of MGM's TV movie for ABC Family "The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream," before ultimately landing her breakout role as 'Adrian Lee,' a series regular ABC Family's award-winning "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." Created by Brenda Hampton ('7th Heaven'), the program broke all records for an original series on the network, including taking the #1 spot in its time slot for cable TV when it premiered in summer of 2008. The show is currently on its fifth season, and continues to be one of the most popular teen TV shows.

In addition to her success on television, Francia will soon make her return to the big screen. She recently finished production on "Chastity Bites," a horror film set to release later this year. Additionally, Francia has been cast as the lead in the highly anticipated indie film, "Beyond Paradise" alongside Ryan Guzman.

Francia currently resides in Los Angeles and continues to stay true to her dancing roots with weekly advanced classes at a dance studio in Hollywood. Francia strives to be a role model for all her female fans. On her spare time, she works to raise awareness on important causes such as hunger, domestic violence, sex trafficking and female empowerment

Raisa was born and raised in Los Angeles, California to Renan Almendarez Coello and Virginia Almendarez. She is of Honduran and Mexican descent and has two younger sisters, Italia and Irlanda. A few years after Raisa was born her father came up with the Latin radio personality "El Cucuy". She attended Bishop Alemany High School where she was a cheerleader.[2]
At the early age of five, Raisa began taking dance lessons excelling in tap, jazz, acrobatics, Hip hop, and Polynesian dance. She also explored karate and ice skating.

Biography

Famke Beumer Janssen was born on November 5, 1964 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and has two other siblings. She studied economics for a year at the University of Amsterdam, which she has called "the stupidest idea I ever had." Moving to America in 1984, Famke modeled for Chanel in New York City. Later, taking a break from modeling, she majored in writing and literature at Columbia University and studied acting with Harold Guskin. She then went to Los Angeles, California, where she continued to study acting under Roy London.

Her first film was the crime drama Fathers & Sons (1992), where she played the love interest of Jeff Goldblum. Later, she became James Bond's enemy in GoldenEye (1995) opposite Pierce Brosnan. Famke received strong critical acclaim for her electrifying performance as the femme fatale Xenia Onatopp. Her career has bloomed since then with her starring in such films as House on Haunted Hill (1999), a reoccurring role on FX's "Nip/Tuck" (2003) and the blockbuster trilogy X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

Early life and education

Janssen was born in Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands.[2] Her first name, Famke, means "girl" in West Frisian, the native language of the Dutch province Friesland.[3] She has two sisters, director Antoinette Beumer and actress Marjolein Beumer.[4] In addition to her native Dutch, Janssen speaks English and French. She also learned German, but has not kept up with it.[5] Following her high school graduation, Janssen studied economics for a year at the University of Amsterdam, which she later called "the stupidest idea I ever had."[4] In the early 1990s, she enrolled at Columbia University to study creative writing and literature.

Career

In 1984, Janssen moved to the United States to begin her professional career as a fashion model. She signed with Elite Model Management and worked for Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, and Victoria's Secret. She starred in a 1988 commercial for the perfume Exclamation by Coty, Inc.[6] Her looks have been compared to Hedy Lamarr and other 1940s films stars.[3]
After retiring from modelling in the early 1990s, Janssen had guest roles on several television series, including a starring role in the 1992 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Perfect Mate", as empathic metamorph Kamala, opposite Patrick Stewart, with whom she later starred in the X-Men film series.[3] That same year, Janssen was offered the role of Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but turned it down to pursue film roles.[7] Her first film role was alongside Jeff Goldblum in the 1992 crime drama film Fathers & Sons.

In 1995, Janssen appeared in Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond film, GoldenEye, as femme fatale Xenia Onatopp. She also appeared in Lord of Illusions with Scott Bakula. In an attempt to fight against typecasting after her Bond girl performance, Janssen began seeking out more intriguing support roles, appearing in John Irvin's City of Industry, Woody Allen's Celebrity, Robert Altman's The Gingerbread Man, and Ted Demme's Monument Ave.[8] Denis Leary, her co-star in Monument Ave., was impressed by how easily she blended in, initially not recognizing her as she was already in character.[3] In the late 1990s, she also appeared in The Faculty, Rounders, Deep Rising, and House on Haunted Hill.
In 2000, Janssen played superhero Dr. Jean Grey in X-Men. She reprised the role in X2 (2003) and again in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) as well as portraying a darker role of Jean Grey's alternate personality, Phoenix, for which she won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.[9] She returned as Jean Grey in the film The Wolverine (2013).
In 2002, Janssen landed the role of villainess Serleena in Men in Black II, but had to abandon the film due to a death in her family.
In addition, Janssen had a prominent role in the second season of the popular TV series Nip/Tuck, as the seductive and manipulative life coach Ava Moore, which earned her Hollywood Life's Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award.[10] She reprised her role in the final two episodes of the series.

Janssen in October 2008
In 2007, she starred in Turn the River, for which she was awarded the Special Recognition Best Actress Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival.[11] The following year, she starred in Luc Besson's Taken. Janssen also continued to work in television, appearing in TV pilots for NBC's cop drama Winters and Showtime's The Farm, a The L Word spin-off set in a women's prison. Both pilots were rejected by their respective networks. Janssen also provided the Dutch-language narration for the Studio Tram Tour at all Disney theme parks.[8]
In 2011, Janssen made her directorial début with the drama Bringing Up Bobby. She also wrote the screenplay to the film, which stars Milla Jovovich, Bill Pullman, and Marcia Cross.[12] She reprised her role as Lenore Mills in Taken 2 (2012) and starred as the main villain Muriel in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013).
Janssen starred in the series Hemlock Grove (2013) where she plays the role of Olivia Godfrey.

Personal life and activism

Janssen was married to writer and director Kip Williams, son of architect Tod Williams, from 1995 to 2000.[2]
Janssen appeared with her dog Licorice, a brindle Boston Terrier, in a 2007 PETA campaign to raise awareness for animal rights. The campaign used the slogan "Be an Angel for Animals."[13] On 28 January 2008, she was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for Integrity for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime at a United Nations anti-corruption conference held in Nusa Dua, Bali.[14]

Personal life

Evangeline Lilly was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and raised in British Columbia by a father who taught home economics and a mother who worked as a beauty consultant.[6][7] She graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia, where she played soccer and was vice president of the student council.[8] She speaks fluent French.[9]
While in college, Lilly worked as a flight attendent for Royal Airlines, a waitress, a mechanic, and as a model to pay for her tuition.[8][10] Her modeling and acting career began when she was discovered walking the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia, by a Ford Modeling Agency agent.[11][12] Lilly took the card but did not immediately pursue modeling or acting. She eventually called and the agency landed her several roles in commercials and non-speaking parts in the TV show Smallville and Kingdom Hospital and the films Freddy vs. Jason and The Lizzie McGuire Movie.[13][14][15]
On December 20, 2006, an electrical problem set fire to Lilly's house in Kailua, Hawaii, destroying the house and all of her possessions while she was on the set of Lost.[16] Though she lost all she owned, Lilly said the fire "was almost liberating. I'm in no hurry to clutter up my life again."[17]
Lilly was previously married to Canadian hockey player Murray Hone.[18] From 2004 to 2009, she dated Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan.[19] She had her first child, a son named Kahekili[20] (Hawaiian for "the thunder"), with boyfriend Norman Kali in Hawaii in May of 2011.[19][21]

Philanthropy

Lilly grew up Christian and her faith influenced her decision to take part in a three-week mission trip to the Philippines when she was 18.[22][23] Her interest in humanitarian causes and global development led her to major in International Relations at the University of British Columbia.[14] Lilly continues to work with nonprofits such as the GO Campaign.[24] In 2009, Lilly auctioned off custom lingerie in support of Task Brasil, "a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the lost street children of Brazil by providing them secure housing."[25] In 2010, she auctioned off three lunches in Vancouver, Honolulu, and Los Angeles to help widows and orphans in Rwanda, a country Lilly has made numerous trips to as part of her charity work.[26]
After shooting the final episode of Lost, Lilly said she was considering taking a break from acting to focus on her charity and humanitarian efforts.[24] She told Vulture, "I consider acting a day job — it's not my dream; it's not my be-all, end-all."[27] She has claimed to use her actress earnings to further her humanitarian efforts, not the other way around.[28]

Lost

Lilly at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards
Lilly was encouraged to try out for Lost by a friend and she did not expect to get cast.[11] Around 75 women auditioned for the part of Kate Austen. Damon Lindelof, writer and co-creator, said he and J.J. Abrams, executive producer and co-creator, "were fast-forwarding through a tape, and he saw her and said, 'That's the girl.'"[29][30] The character almost had to be recast, as Lilly had trouble acquiring a work visa to enter the United States.[31] Her application was finally accepted after nearly 20 tries and she arrived in Hawaii for filming one day late.[31]
Lost ran for six seasons, airing from 2004-2010.[32] It was one of the top shows on ABC's primetime schedule during its run, won one Golden Globe, and was ranked the top-rated TV show of the decade (2002-2012) by IMDB.[33]
Lilly appeared in 116 of the show's 121 episodes, and her character, Kate Austen, was the show's female lead.[34] Entertainment Weekly voted Lilly one of its "Breakout Stars of 2004."[35] In 2006, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Lead Actress-Drama.[36] Robert Bianco of USA Today praised Lilly's performance in "Eggtown," saying that it was almost worthy of a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.[37] In 2007, Lilly's portrayal was voted #1 Sexiest Woman on Television by TV Guide and made FHM's Top Sexiest.[38]
Action figures of Lilly's Lost character were released during the holiday season of 2006.

Lilly has used her celebrity status as a spokeswoman for several brands.
In 2008, Lilly starred in the Academy Award-winning film The Hurt Locker.[39] She and the rest of the cast won the Gotham Award for Best Ensemble Cast and the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Ensemble.[40] Lilly followed her role in The Hurt Locker with a leading part opposite John Malkovich in Afterwards, a psychological thriller directed by Gilles Bourdos.[41]
In 2010, Lilly stated her intention on writing a children's book called The Squickerwonkers[42] and to focus on feature films.[43][44] On May 11, 2010, Lilly announced on The View that she places writing and being a mother as top priorities, but she likes acting as a day job and she will continue acting when possible.[45]
In 2011, Lilly appeared as Bailey Tallet in Real Steel alongside Hugh Jackman.[46] Despite having turned down a number of movie offers, she traveled to Los Angeles to acquire the part a few days after director Shawn Levy sent her the script.[47] Levy said he cast her because Lilly is "magnificent to look at, she's soulful, and she's sexy with Hugh. I needed someone who you believed had grown up in a man's world. Bailey needed to have a strength and a toughness that was not at the expense of her being womanly."[48]
In 2012, Lilly was cast to play the role of the Woodland Elf Tauriel in Peter Jackson's three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.[5] The character, which does not appear in the original book by Tolkien, was created by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh as the head of the Elven guard who, like Legolas (who also appears in the film), wields a bow and two daggers as weapons. Lilly, who had been a fan of Tolkien's books since she was 13,[49] underwent training for swordplay and archery, as well as in the Elvish language for the role.[49][50]
