http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSrxKlGULG9tEhahpnMOaQSwLjr_JWqMmu8Ljw3wvpSUrk9IkAeZayed Abbas Khan (born 5 July 1980[1]) is an Indian actor who acts in Hindi films

Early life

Khan's parents are former Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan and interior designer Zarine Khan. Khan is the youngest of four children. His older sisters are Simone Khan (wife of Ajay Arora), Sussanne Roshan (married to actor Hrithik Roshan), and Farah Khan Ali (wife of DJ Aqeel). Khan is related as first cousin to yet another Bollywood actor, Fardeen Khan, whose father is the late actor Feroz Khan, who was Khan's father's brother.[2]
Khan attended Welham Boys' School, Dehradun, and later Kodaikanal International School, Kodaikanal, with childhood friend Esha Deol and Mallaika Parekh. He studied Business Management at the University of Washington and Film Making at London Film Academy. Zayed Khan married Mallaika Parekh on 20 November 2005.[3] They have a son, Zidaan, who was born on 18 January 2008,[4] and welcomed a second son named Aariz on 22 September 2011.

Career

Khan made his screen debut in 2003 in the film Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne.[5]
In 2004, he starred in Main Hoon Na, which was one of the biggest hits in his career. It was the second highest-grossing film of 2004 behind Veer-Zaara and was declared a hit. Khan was subsequently nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005.
Khan had 4 releases in 2005, which is his highest number to date. He played an obsessive lover in Vaada alongside Arjun Rampal and Ameesha Patel, but the film proved unsuccessful and was a flop at the box office. He then starred in Shabd as a photography professor, which he was very excited about because he had always wanted to do a film with Aishwarya Rai. However, it failed at the box office. His third release, Anubhav Sinha's action thriller Dus, where he played a cop, did well. It was an above-average grosser and was the third highest-grossing film of 2005. Khan's final release of the year, Shaadi No. 1 flopped at the box office.

Next, he appeared in Rocky: The Rebel. Khan revealed that he had ghost-written some scenes in the film. He had first begun script-writing when he was studying in London. He replaced John Abraham, who backed out of the film, in Fight Club - Members Only which was his last release in 2006.
Both of his films in 2007 were action multi-starrers. Anubhav Sinha's Cash was originally meant to be the sequel to Dus, but ended up differently. Due to this, some of the cast of Dus also star in Cash. It performed reasonably well in its first week, but was unable to replicate the success of Dus and was eventually declared a flop. Speed also failed.
In 2008, Khan co-starred in the Bollywood remake of Rain Man, Yuvvraaj with Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anil Kapoor. It was a disaster at the box office. He then had the leading role as a news reporter in Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istaanbul opposite Vivek Oberoi but it failed at the box office.
'Khan was recommended by Sanjay Dutt for 2009's Blue. At the time of its release, Blue broke the record for having the highest budget for a Bollywood film. It had an excellent opening weekend, collecting INR480 million but was a below-average grosser.[6] He also filmed Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene which is a comic thriller film. However, it ran into some production hassles and is yet to be released.
Khan also had a special appearance as an infidel fiancé in the Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani.
From 2011 on, the actor has also ventured into production with his co-owned production house, Born Free Entertainment along with good friend Dia Mirza and her fiancé Sahil Sanga. Their first film, Love Breakups Zindagi was released on 7 October 2011, but was met with a lukewarm response.
In 2012, Khan played a supporting role in Tezz which stars Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan in the lead. His next film, Ameesha Patel's maiden production, Desi Magic began principal photography on 2 July 2013.

Vinod Khanna was extremely popular and successful as a lead actor in the seventies and the eighties. He is considered to be one of the most good looking actors in Bollywood. Khanna debuted in Sunil Dutt's 1968 film Man Ka Meet as a villain.[2] At the start of his career, he played supporting and negative characters in hit films from 1968-1972 such as Purab Aur Paschim (1970), Sachaa Jhutha (1970) and Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971)[2] Mastana, Elaan and Aan Milo Sajna.
Because of his charming personality, he became popular with the audience and soon got offers for lead roles. He is one of the few Bollywood actors who could successfully transition from negative roles to positive lead roles. It was films like Mere Apne, Hum Tum Aur Woh and Parchaiyaan, between 1971-72, which displayed that Vinod Khanna could play the main lead heroes role too. Mere Apne and Hum Tum Aur Woh were both superhits but Parchaiyaan was a box office flop.He got his first break as lead hero in the film Hum Tum Aur Woh (1971), a box-office hit which was followed by the 1971 film Mere Apne directed by Gulzar. It was the melodious R.D. composed Rafi-Asha “Sasoan Mein Kabhi” from the box office flop film Parchaiyaan in 1972, where his romantic skills got noticed among auidences. His performance as an army officer facing death row in another Gulzar scripted and directed 1973 film Achanak was critically acclaimed. The songless film echoed the true life story of K. M. Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra and Khanna portrayed Kawas Nanavati, the real life Navy officer.[2]
From 1973-1982, Khanna starred in numerous successful solo and multi starrer movies. In films with ‘Rajesh Khanna’ as the lead hero, Vinod Khanna always had either the antagonist role or supporting role and not even the parallel lead. These film were Sachaa Jhutha Aan Milo Sajna, Prem Kahani, Kudrat and Rajput. All the five films were superhits. Vinod accepted his roles in Kudrat and Rajput even after he had become a successful solo lead hero himself just due to rappo he shared with Rajesh Khanna. Vinod Khanna had solo hero blockbusters in 1975-81 - Qaid in 1975 and Zalim in 1980 both opposite Leena Chandervarkar and Inkaar in 1977 opposite Vidya Sinha followed by Aap Ki Khatir, Khoon Ki Pukar, Yuvraaj, Gharam Koon, Lahu Ke Do Rang, Taaqat and Jail Yatra. The multi hero films, with him also playing the main lead hero, like Shankar Shambhu, Chor Sipahee and Ek Aur Ek Gyarah with Shashi Kapoor, Qurbani with Feroz Khan and Parvarish, Zameer, Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Amar Akbar Anthony and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar with Amitabh and Haath Ki Safai, Aakhri Daku with Randhir Kapoor and with Sunil Dutt in Daku Aur Jawan were superhits at the box office. He continued to play supporting roles to stars like Rajesh Khanna and Sunil Dutt in period 1974-81, even after achieving star status in 1973, out of respect for them. He got to his credit, more solo hero films in period 1973-1981 and in 1989-1995.
In 1980, he starred in Feroz Khan's Qurbani (1980) which turned to be the biggest hit of the year. The movie's music and songs becoming a rage all over the world ushering in the "disco revolution" in India. Having peaked in Bollywood, he became a follower of the spiritual teacher Osho (Rajneesh) and abruptly quit the film industry by 1982 for five years.Though he had stopped acting in films in 1982, the films with him as the main lead released in 1982 like Raj Mahal, Taaqat and the multi star Rajput , where Vinod Khanna played supporting role to main lead heroes Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra, were super hits at the box office but his other films like Insaan and Daulat were flops.
In 1987, he returned to Bollywood with his comeback movie Insaaf opposite Dimple Kapadia. The movie was a big hit and proved that the audience still accepted him as a lead actor. From 1987 to 1994, Khanna again worked as a hero in several solo and multi starrer movies. After he made comeback in 1987, his solo hero films released in 1987-88 like Satyamev Jayate , Insaaf , Mahaadev and Aakhri Adaalat were big hits. He was disappointed when his film Dayawan and Rihaee were box office flops but these two films were critically acclaimed. His first romantic role after his comeback in 1987 was in Jurm and Chandni. He was mostly being offered roles in action films from 1987.He got to his credit, more solo hero films in period 1973-1981 and in 1989-1995 period. In 90’s his solo hits include Muqaddar Ka Badshaah, C.I.D., Jurm, Humshakal (1992) and the multi hero films of Vinod Khanna to be successful in period from 1989-1995 include Farishtay, Khoon Ka Karz, Police Aur Mujrim, Kshatriya, Ekka Raja Rani and Eena Meena Deeka.

In 1997 he donned the role of producer to launch his second son Akshaye Khanna in the film Himalay Putra; he also starred in the film. In 1999 he received a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the film industry for over three decades. He has since acted in fewer films playing character roles. His most recent films were Deewaanapan (2002), , Red Alert: The War Within, Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010).His performance as lead protagonist was critically acclaimed in films like Pehchaan: The Face of Truth (2005), Godfather: The Legend Continues (2007), Risk (2007).

Vinod Khanna did 55 solo hero films of which 27 were hits and did 48 multi-star cast films of which 31 were box-office success. He was in lead role in 103 films from Hum um Aur Woh in 1971 to Godfather: The Legend Continues in 2007.He played supporting roles in 35 films from Manmeet in 1968 to Ramaiya Vastavaiya in 2013. In period 1974-1982 Vinod Khanna was paid more than Jeetendra in the film Insaan and more than Amitabh Bachchan in 4 films like Parvarish, Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Amar Akbar Anthony. In post 1987 period, Vinod Khanna was paid more than Rishi Kapoor, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Rajnikanth, Salman Khan in the films he did with them from 1987-1995. Only in the films he co-starred with Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Sunil Dutt and Randhir Kapoor in period 1968-1982, Vinod was paid lesser than them.

Early work

After winning Zee TV's supermodel hunt in 2002, Patel began modelling for Hugo Boss, Paul Smith and Zegna. He started his acting career with singer/song writer Romey Gill's "Sadeyan paran to sikhi udna."
He received the MTV India Most Stylish Male Award 2 years in a row. He won F awards as India's number one Supermodel, which led to many more endorsements including Tuscan Verve, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Provogue and D'damas Desire. He has campaigned for brands like Wendell Rodrick, Vikram Phadnis and Westside.
He was a cook on the show 'Karen Anand's Cook Na Kaho' before his official debut into films.[1]

Patel appeared in many music videos, including the remix of the classic Bollywood song "Kya Khoob Lagti Ho", which also featured Udita Goswami.
In 2006, he made his Bollywood debut in the film 36 China Town. The film was a success at the box office. Subash K Jha commented "Upen Patel as the Casanova in the casino makes an unusual stylish debut. He dances with confidence and holds his own, even among the accomplished ensemble of actors."[2] Patel won several awards, including the IIFA Award for the role.
His second film, Namastey London, was released on 23 March 2007 and also did well at the box office.[citation needed]
Shortly afterwards, his third film Shakalaka Boom Boom was released on 6 April 2007, but did not do as well at the box office.[citation needed] He did however garner appreciation for his performance. Taran Adarsh comments that Patel is "confidence personified" when performing the complex role, and that "Upen is not just a show-stopper when it comes to looks, but has the potential to climb the ladder as an actor".[3]
In 2008, he received flak for his guest appearance in Ashwani Dheer's One Two Three.[citation needed] His role in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai was well received, but the film did not become a commercial success. He also played a cameo in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.[4]
In 2010 he took time out to finish a diploma in film making from the NIFT in the UK and earned a diploma in scriptwriting from Raindance in the UK. The same year, he completed a summer camp in Acting at the Lee Strasberg Actors' Studio in Los Angeles.

He joined theater called the Old Rep Theater in Birmingham, England where he studied theatre and acting[1]
Deol's films such as Border (1997) and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) remain some of Bollywood's biggest hits,[6] while films like Betaab (1983), Arjun (1985),Saltanat (1986), Paap Ki Duniya (1988), Tridev (1989), Ghayal (1990), Damini – Lightning (1993), Darr (1993), Jeet (1996), Ghatak: Lethal (1996), Ziddi (1997), Indian (2001), The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), Apne (2007), Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) are other successful films thus making him one of the successful leading actors of Bollywood.[7][8] Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is the second-highest grossing movie of Indian film history, if inflation is taken into account [9] and also most watched Bollywood movie of modern era in theaters.[10]

Early life

Deol was born into a Punjabi Sikh[11] family in the Sahnewal village of Punjab, India (near ludhiana) to Bollywood actor Dharmendra[12] and Prakash Kaur. Sunny is eldest son of Dharmendra. His stepmother is Hema Malini.[13] He has a brother Bobby Deol and two sisters Vijayta Deol and Ajeeta Deol who are settled in California, he also has two half-sisters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.[14] His cousin Abhay Deol is also a successful actor.

Career

1980s

Deol made his debut opposite debutant Amrita Singh in Betaab (1983) which was a blockbuster & launched both Sunny & Amrita Singh's career's. His performance won him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award Nomination.[15] He then went through a lean phase for a couple of years until Rahul Rawail's Arjun (1985) came. He played the titular role of an unemployed youngster in Arjun. The film went on to become a major hit and established Sunny’s status as an action hero. What followed were a bunch of hits like Dacait (1987), Yateem (1988) and Paap Ki Duniya (1988)[16] In 1989, he had back to back hits with Rajiv Rai's Tridev and Pankaj Parashar's Chaalbaaz.

1990's

With his portrayal of an amateur boxer wrongly accused of his brother’s murder in Rajkumar Santoshi's Ghayal, Sunny proved that he still ruled the industry when it came to action sequences. Produced by the home banner Vijayta Films, the movie was an instant hit with the masses and went on to win seven Filmfare Awards.[17] His performance won him his second Filmfare Best Actor Award and also his first National Film Award.[18] In 1991, Sunny starred in about 5 films but only Narsimha was a success. Rajiv Rai's Vishwatma was Sunny's only release in 1992. His role of a lawyer in Damini – Lightning (1993) fetched him several awards and accolades in Bollywood. Shahrukh Khan shared screen space with Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in Yash Chopra’s blockbuster Darr. In the mid-nineties he delivered four big hits in a row Jeet (1996), Ghatak: Lethal (1996), Ziddi (1997) and Border (1997)[19] In 1999, after starring opposite Juhi Chawla in Arjun Pandit, Sunny Deol tried his hand at direction and helmed Dillagi. He also acted alongside younger brother Bobby Deol and Urmila Matondkar in his directorial debut, which was very well appreciated by critics[20]

2000s

In 2001, he starred in the film Farz opposite Preity Zinta.[21] Sunny played the role of lorry driver Tara Singh who falls in love with a Muslim girl in Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The partition saga went to become an all time blockbuster and was the highest grossing Bollywood film ever that time as well as the biggest hit of the 21st century, earning Rs 973 million in India.[22][23] He was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his portrayal.[24] His third release that year saw him playing the title role in the action film Indian, a remake of the Tamil film Vallarasu in which Sunny essayed the character of DCP Rajshekhar Azad, an honest police officer. The movie was a success.[21] Sunny’s next few projects were extremely patriotic in nature and struck a chord with audiences across the country. He played the role of an Indian military officer in Maa Tujhhe Salaam and essayed the character of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad in 23rd March 1931: Shaheed.
In 2003 Sunny Deol teamed up with director Anil Sharma yet again for The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, which also starred Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra in her first onscreen appearance.[25] which released on 11 April and was billed as Bollywood's most expensive film that time with an estimated budget of INR60 crore (US$10 million)[26] The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and became the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of that year[27] Sunny made an appearance alongside Dharmendra and Bobby Deol in Apne (2007)[28] and then yet again in Yamla Pagla Deewana[29][30]

2010s

Deol's first release of 2010 was Right Yaaa Wrong.[31] The film was critically successful, but moderately successful commercially.[32] Yamla Pagla Deewana was Sunny's only release in 2011 and one of the biggest successes of the year[33] In 2011, he started working in Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru's I Love New Year opposite Tannishtha Chatterjee and in Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Mohalla Assi opposite Sakshi Tanwar but for some reason's both films have been delayed. For the first time in his career, Sunny will lend his voice (for Bheem) in the Animated film Mahabharata; produced by Jayantilal Gada of PEN India Pvt Ltd. His future ventures includes Neeraj Pathak's Bhaiyyaji Superhitt (where he plays a double role for the first time), Anil Sharma's Singh Sahab The Great, Sangeeth Sivan's Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and Rahul Rawail's Ghayal Returns .
